16/365 Tomb Topper
Snow covered tombstone outside a church. I've long been fascinated with graveyards. There is some symbolic meaning to the various decorations that adorn peoples' burying spots, but I only know of a few, such as a broken column indicates a life cut unnaturally short. Before we were married, my wife lived on the edge of the Montgomery County Cemetery, which is a great old burying ground, full of marble headstones. Many veterans of the 51st PA are buried there, and you could see the tomb of General Winfield Scott Hancock from my wife's apartment building. Former PA governor John F. Hartranft, who commanded the 51st PA, is also buried there in an impressive family plot overlooking the river.
