Go Freddy Go!

About the only bright spot in this Pirates season gone past is the very real possibility that Freddy Sanchez will win the NL batting title. After going 2 for 4 last night, he's up to .345, four points up on Florida's Miguel Cabrera. Both teams have two more games left, and it's reasonably safe to assume each of them will get 8 more at bats in those two games.

Worst case scenario would be Freddy going 0-8 tonight and tomorrow, which would drop his batting average to .340. Cabrera would need three hits in his eight at bats to just shave Freddy, at .3408 to .3402. However, if Sanchez can manage only one hit in those eight at bats, he'll finish at .341 while Cabrera will need to go 4-8 to eke out Freddy at .342.

Of course, its all just speculation, assuming that each of them gets eight at bats over the next two games. Conversly, Jim Tracy could be a spoil-sport and hold Freddy out for the next two games, which would force Cabrera to go 6-8 in order to pass Sanchez. Personally, I don't think Tracy would do that.

UPDATE: Cabrera 1-4 today. Remains at .340. Sanchez went 0-4 and sits at .343.
