Squashed
I planted spaghetti squash in the garden this year, and had a great vine, over eight feet tall with a number of nicely developing gourds. I said "had," because when I cam home from work yesterday, the leaves, which looked great two days ago, were badly wilted, despite plenty of rain.
I examined the plant, and was disappointed to find several incisions in the stem near the soil level. Well, I knew what this was, and it didn't bode well for homegrown spaghetti squash.
I used a toothpick to probe the damaged stalk, and soon pulled out a big, fat white grub. Squash borer! The damage was done, and I don't think the plant can be saved.
