Weekend Relic Blogging!!
I was lucky enough to get a rare, "behind the scenes" tour of Soldiers and Sailors recently. The museum has tons of stuff stashed away because there is no room to display it all. The stuff on display is quite interesting though. This is a wonderful museum in the heart of Oakland that too few people know about. Well worth the five dollar admission price.

Weekend Baseball Blogging!
Well, last night was my first opportunity to see the post-trading deadline Pirates, and I got stuck in some of the worst traffic I've ever seen while trying to get downtown. Took ten minutes to get across the bridge.

Finally!! After all that traffic we get to the ballpark and get ready to enjoy wings and beer!

The guy on the right is the best ballplayer in the NL. The guy on the left isn't.

Satchel Paige's son threw ouy the ceremonial first pitch. I remember when Paige was inducted to the Hall of Fame, I think he was around 107 years old, and still looked like he could pitch. Well, OK, he really 65 when he was inducted, it just seemed he'd been around that long.

Now batting, Kenny Blankenship! Well, OK, its really So Taguchi, but he looks like Kenny.

It appears that The Parrot recently had rhinoplasty. Here, he enjoys some fowl fingers. Tastes like chicken, I guess.

Normally, perogies give me the runs. These guys skip the gastrointestinal tract and proceed directly to running.

DOOOOOOK!!! Zack Duke goes the distance in a 7-1 win and we pick up a game on the Cardinals!! Only 19.5 games back now, with over a month to play!! Tonight, I watch Ian Snell pitch!
Make that 18.5 games back!! Snell and the Pirates beat the Cards again! I was going to play softball this afternoon, but with the opportunity to witness a sweep, I think I'm headed to PNC Park instead.
UPDATE: That is 17.5 games back! SWEEEEEEEEP!

Squashed
I planted spaghetti squash in the garden this year, and had a great vine, over eight feet tall with a number of nicely developing gourds. I said "had," because when I cam home from work yesterday, the leaves, which looked great two days ago, were badly wilted, despite plenty of rain.
I examined the plant, and was disappointed to find several incisions in the stem near the soil level. Well, I knew what this was, and it didn't bode well for homegrown spaghetti squash.
I used a toothpick to probe the damaged stalk, and soon pulled out a big, fat white grub. Squash borer! The damage was done, and I don't think the plant can be saved.
