Fungi Fruiting

We've finally gotten some rain after several rather dry weeks, so I went mushroom hunting after work. Found about a half dozen of these big (about 6" across at the caps) Agaricus specimens. Pretty sure they're agaricus arvensis, the Horse Mushroom. Possibly agaricus
campestris, the Meadow Mushroom.

One of the prettiest amanitas I've come across. Pretty sure this is Amanita muscaria, the Fly Agaric.

Friday Pet Blogging!

YEah, we haven't seen them is a while. Still doing their things, Dusty is still chewing on something, Britt still looks slightly stunned whenever someone takes a picture, and Tawney, as always, prefers sleeping when he's not eating.

Harvest Moon

This year, I decided to try my hand at canning, and I'm really enjoying it. Our first effort was spaghetti sauce, and here are the filled jars ready to go! We've also done crushed tomatoes, and right now, I'm pickling squash. We've been using our produce from the CSA, augmented with extra purchases from the farm, but I think I'm going to expand my garden next year, especially with tomato plantings.

The Song Of My Life!

PPPPPFFFFFFTTTTTTT!!!!!

Made beer come out my nose!

Storm Damage

Well, Ike crushed my pool last night. Looks like I'll be spending the week dealing with insurance claims, tree removal services, and repair/replacement estimates. Posting will probably be light this week as a result. I consider myself lucky though. Despite hurricane force winds, all I'm out is a swimming pool. Many people lost everything.
